The Bristol Press – Plainville women’s volleyball swept away by Platt, interrupted eight-game winning streak

PLAINVILLE – The Plainville women’s volleyball team’s eight-game winning streak was interrupted in its 3-0 loss to Platt on Friday.

The Blue Devils fell behind early against a starving Panthers team and never recovered as the visitors handed Plainville their fourth loss of the season.

“Unfortunately, one of our starters fell ill in school today,” said Blue Devils coach Alle Caponigro. “She wasn’t there at the game and our girls tried really, really hard and did a great job getting into the punching position that she normally plays. But I think in this chaos, they lost their reason for being on the ground. They lost their way, lost their service a little.

Wiktoria Galazyn was Plainville’s missing player and the elder’s absence proved to be key as Platt won all three sets by scores of 25-17, 25-14 and 25-17.

The Blue Devils played their best game in the third set forcing the Panthers to request a halfway timeout, but Platt center hitter Eva Dudley quickly restored the momentum in her side’s favor with a few kills. . Plainville couldn’t do much to stop Dudley throughout the contest as the runner-up ranged several balls each through spikes.

“When we’re a little out of position because other people are being replaced in the game, it’s hard to find your place after that,” Caponigro said.

While the Blue Devils improved as the game went on, they couldn’t find a consistent level of play good enough to defeat the Panthers, who rose to 7-8 with the win.

“I think they did a great job of keeping it together and getting it back at the end,” Caponigro said. “But when you lose 2-0 it’s hard to come back from that. It was just unfortunate that we started the game on our heels and it’s hard to get over that and move on to four or five games. I think it’s just a learning curve, we haven’t seen this yet, we haven’t dealt with this situation, so I think in the future this is something that we will have seen , that we will know how to handle and we will be good. ”

Friday’s loss marks Plainville’s first loss since September 21 when Hall won the game 3-1. The Blue Devils had beaten Lewis Mills, Middletown, Tolland, Bloomfield, Northwest Catholic, Hartford Public and Wamogo (twice) during their winning streak.

“I dismissed them after the game and they were all in a good state of mind,” Caponigro said. “We have a game on Monday, so hopefully they will take the weekend to think a bit and understand some of the things I was saying in the middle of the game, and that they will come back and adjust it for the game on Monday. . ”

Plainville (11-4) will travel to Bristol Central (12-3) on Monday at 6.30 p.m.
