Blue lights will shine again on Texas A&M University System campuses across the state on Tuesday in recognition of World Teachers’ Day. The 11 universities of the A&M system, the RELLIS campus in Bryan and the Texas A&M University Health Science Center (Texas A&M Health) will illuminate a total of 30 iconic buildings and monuments.

“We hope everyone takes note and thinks about the importance teachers have not only for their own lives, but also for our collective future,” said Elaine Mendoza of the Texas A&M System Board of Regents. “The Texas A&M University System prides itself on producing more fully certified teachers than any other public university system in Texas and, more importantly, recognizes educator preparation as one of the most important contributions we can make to our community. great state. “

World Teachers’ Day was designed by UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, in 1994. The day is an opportunity to celebrate the teaching profession around the world, to take stock of achievements and draw attention to the voices of teachers who are at the heart of efforts to achieve the global education goal of leaving no one behind.

Graduates of higher education institutions on Texas A&M University System campuses are in high demand because they are so well prepared, Chancellor John Sharp said.

“Our graduates are sought after by school districts across Texas because they know our students are getting the tools they need to be ready on the first day of class,” said Sharp. “We are preparing teachers to make the world a better place, one child at a time. “

The theme for this year’s World Teachers’ Day is “Teachers at the Heart of Restoring Education”. The 11 Texas A&M System universities will, through social media and other online efforts, encourage their communities to consider the contributions of teachers to provide distance learning, support vulnerable populations, reopen schools and ensure that learning gaps are reduced.
