SNC-Lavalin wins contract to help improve safety and mobility along Texas’ main freight corridor
MONTREAL, October 18, 2021 / CNW Telbec / – The SNC-Lavalin Group inc. (TSX: SNC), a fully integrated professional services and project management company with offices around the world, has been awarded a contract to provide general engineering consulting (GEC) services for the Texas Department of Interstate 45 (I-45) Transportation Corridor Project (TxDOT) in the East Central Texas. The project will improve safety, increase the mobility of goods, improve hurricane evacuation capacity and reduce daily and seasonal traffic jams by adding main lanes, improving the operation of existing interchanges and improving safety standards along a 90.4 mile segment of the corridor.

Under the seven-year contract, SNC-Lavalin will act as TxDOT’s GEC, overseeing eight production engineering firms, developing drawings, environmental documents and up to 15 plans, specifications and specifications (PS&E ). The team will also focus on reducing project delays and making the schedule efficient.

The I-45 connects the Houston-Galveston and Dallas-Fort Worth areas, two of the largest metropolitan areas in the country and the two largest in the state. The corridor provides primary access for the movement of freight between the two markets, including major seaports in Houston and Galveston and the main inland ports of Dallas and Fort worth. It has recently been the site of private sector autonomous truck operations. The improved configuration that this project will offer should make the corridor even more attractive for the movement of advanced freight.
