New leaders join Suffolk University board
Marie-Louise Skafte, JD ’96, is President of Skafte Global Law, PA, a global legal firm she founded in 2015 that provides outside counsel and general counsel services.
She is qualified to practice law in England, various US states and the Canadian province of Ontario. She is a global leader and human resources professional with 25 years of experience in the professional services, leasing, aviation, transportation and logistics industry. Skafte previously served as inaugural General Counsel at international shipping giant, Deutsche Post DHL Canada, serving 220 countries, as well as Bermuda-based Cronos Limited, a privately held shipping container leasing company. , where she led human resources, legal, and corporate compliance teams across its operations in 19 countries.
Previously, she worked for DHL Express (USA), Inc., American President Lines Limited, MasTec, Inc. and Massport.
Skafte earned a bachelor’s degree in Labor/Management and Business Relations from the University of Toronto and Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University, where she earned academic and athletic scholarships. She was honored as Global General Counsel of the Year by Corporate Counsel Women of Color (CCWC) and legal powerhouse K&L Gates, and was named Lawyer of the Year – Transportation & Logistics as part of the Women in Law Awards 2016. In 2021 Skafte was named a Lawyer of Distinction – recognition of excellence in the practice of law. She is a member of the CCWC Advisory Board and a member of the Board of Directors of One Love Foundation, a national non-profit organization that works to end relationship abuse by educating young people on how to create and maintain healthy relationships. .
Passionate about aviation, Skafte attained the rank of multi-engine commercial pilot.
A member of the Dean’s Cabinet at Suffolk University Law School since 2019, Skafte has created a new scholarship to help ease tuition pressures for international law students.
