10 best Rick and Morty characters, ranked
The animated sci-fi adventures of Rick and morty introduced viewers to a multitude of otherworldly and interdimensional characters. With literally hundreds of major and minor characters appearing throughout its seasons, Rick and morty is dense with weird and hilarious people, aliens and other weird beings.
In this group there are boring characters like Gearhead, pun characters like Abradolph Lincler, and characters fans know next to nothing about like Diane Sanchez. But throughout the series’ 50+ episodes, there are certain characters who have proven they have the nuance, personality, and storytelling power to be the best of the best.
Fans are hoping for a lot more from Jessica in the upcoming seasons of the show. In her own words, Jessica has been “an object in another story” for much of the series. And that’s true. She spent four seasons just being Morty’s high school crush, but without having much history beyond that.
However, Season 5 saw Jessica break away from the role of “crush” for Morty and experience a lot more of it while frozen in time. While she hasn’t had any other appearances for the rest of Season 5, she has a lot of potential as a character now that she’s more fleshed out.
9 Beth smith
Beth has a pretty impressive arc during the show. When it comes to character growth, Beth has gone from being a cynical and reluctant member of a marriage and family to someone proud and happy to be where she is in life (regardless of times. which prove that she can be the Beth clone).
Beth is incredibly intelligent like her father, and her bond with Jerry has turned into a more respectful couple than they were at the beginning, which makes her a lot nicer as a person. She’s nicer to him and is consciously trying to work on their marriage through therapy and shared activities, not to mention standing up to Rick for Jerry.
8 Summer blacksmith
Summer’s role in the series has grown a lot over the last few episodes. She used to be in several of the best B-series stories on Rick and Morty, but she’s accompanying Rick and Morty on more and more adventures on the show, and audiences got to see a lot more of her strength and hear a lot more of her sarcastic, teenage one-liners.
Summer was the driving force behind the “Gotron Jerrysis Rickvangelion” story, and even played a key role in crafting a plan to prevent the giant space incest baby from happening (though it did) did not work). Her dialogue makes repeated comments about the feminism and stereotypes that women and the younger generation face on a daily basis, which is truly avant-garde for the series.
Unity was only featured in one episode of Rick and morty, but her presence had an impact and it won’t be surprising that she returns to interact with Rick again. The relationship between Unity and Rick was very important to Rick, and she was one of the people he seemed to really care about.
Rick and morty dealt with the real issues of depression and suicide when Rick was considering ending his life after their breakup. It proved how crucial Unity was and how badly Rick could be hurt, and it was the first time audiences had a glimpse of the usually jaded super genius inner self-loathing.
Birdperson is Rick’s best and closest friend. In fact, the two even kiss in one edition of the Rick and morty comic series. Besides just being a potential romantic partner for Rick, Birdperson worked hard to help Rick find Diane and Beth’s murderer, going wherever Rick asked him to.
The two shared an intense and impressive fight at Blood Ridge to defeat the Federation for BP. While some things weren’t perfect, like their awkward parting at Blood Ridge or Rick hiding information from Birdperson’s child from him, Birdperson is one of the few people who really knows Rick and is even the one who reveals his slogan “Wubba lubba dub dub”, in fact means (“I am suffering a lot. Help me please”).
5 Jerry smith
Jerry is a character who is shameless himself, and there is a lot to admire about it. While he did some embarrassing things in the show’s first seasons, he also had moments of real bravery, like when he fought the Cronenbergs to protect Beth and Summer and helped save Rick’s life. in “The Whirly Dirly Conspiracy” (although he put it in danger in the first place).
During Seasons 4 and 5, Jerry has more confidence in his role within the family and doesn’t let anyone bring him down. When Beth laughs at her sock puppets, he makes them anyway. He doesn’t let people hurt his feelings, he stands up for himself, and he’s even in counseling with Beth.
4 M. Poopybutthole
Mr. Poopybutthole is a meta-content font for the show. Although many Rick and morty the characters recognize that they are on a TV show, he is the only one watching the show with the audience. Many fan theories have cropped up as to who Mr. Poopybutthole is, but his origin is still an unsolved plot about Rick and morty.
Mr. Poopybutthole’s complex history in the series also makes him one of the best characters. He survived a bullet, overcame an addiction to prescription drugs, married and started a family, taught African-American women’s literature at a college, then lost his job when Rick enlisted his students for test his fighting skills for a heist.
3 Morty Smith
Morty has been through a lot on Rick and morty. At just 14, Morty has had to abandon his family on several occasions to change realities, bury his own corpse, and deal with more near-death situations than most teenagers (or people, in general) have to go through.
Throughout everything, Morty has grown into a more nuanced and complicated character. His childish innocence is all but gone, but he still retains a strong sense of morality and kindness, as shown by his repeated forgiveness to Rick when he is toxic to him. He’s the Mortiest Morty, after all, and that’s what makes him so great.
2 Evil Morty
Evil Morty is a fan favorite character and the subject of many theories and conspiracies on the series. He’s the only person to ever outwit Rick by hacking his portal gun and went completely against the grain of being a Morty. If anything, his intelligence and cunning make him a lot more Rick-like.
His hard work and determination to get out of the center finite curve resulted in one of the best episodes of Rick and morty, “The Ricklantis Mixup,” and his plan finally coming true was one of the reasons the Rick and morty The Season 5 finale was the best yet. Evil Morty is a fantastic part of the series, and fans are hoping to get a glimpse of life for him off the curve.
1 Rick sanchez
Rick is the character that makes audiences feel everything: angry with him, disgusted with him, heartbroken for him, or simply in awe of his intelligence. He’s the most real, human character on the show, and that makes him one of the best.
Rick’s tendency to self-sabotage, his deep self-loathing, and struggles with drug addiction combine with his quick tongue, bravery, and resourcefulness to make him truly complicated and approachable. Without Rick, there is no show. His story and personality drives everything, and his many adventures create compelling stories. Rick and morty must say.
